Cottage living room renovation, Belthorn
A full living room renovation in a Belthorn cottage — the original ceiling beams exposed, the fireplace opened back to stone with a wood burner fitted, and dark mahogany replaced with oak throughout.

The brief was direct: take the dark mahogany out, put oak in, expose the original ceiling beams, and fit a log burner. We stripped the tongue-and-groove panel ceiling, opened up the blocked fireplace to the original stone, replastered, installed the oak beam mantel and woodburner, fitted oak skirting, architrave and cottage doors throughout, and laid new carpet. Around four weeks of work, start to finish. The result is a room that reads its own age — beams visible, fireplace open, dark wood replaced with oak that suits the cottage.
