Another dark-to-light living room transformation, this time in Blackburn. The brief was the same story we know well: strip out the dark wood floor and dated fittings, bring in oak, keep the original beams, and open the room up with a lighter, calmer finish. We replastered, fitted an oak beam mantel and a brace-and-batten oak door, laid new grey carpet throughout, and finished with fresh decoration and downlights. The result is a brighter, warmer room that keeps its cottage character — beams and oak doing the work, the heavy dark timber gone.
