Fitted Wardrobes

A fitted wardrobe should look like it was always part of the room — taken up to the ceiling, tight into the corners, with no dust-gap above and no filler strips fighting the wall. That's the difference between fitted and freestanding: built-in storage uses every inch, including the awkward bits a standalone unit just blocks off.

We're a family-run fitting team in Blackburn, and fitting wardrobes well is mostly about patience and a good eye — measuring properly, scribing to the walls, hanging doors that line up. You choose the range and the look; we make it fit the room you've actually got, not the perfect rectangle a catalogue assumes.

The two most common choices suit different rooms. Floor-to-ceiling hinged wardrobes give you the most storage and a clean built-in look, and they work almost anywhere there's room to swing a door. Sliding doors are the better answer in a tighter room or where a swinging door would foul the bed — nothing projects into the space, and a mirrored slider can make a small bedroom feel twice the size. Neither is "best"; it's about how much floor you've got and how the room is used. When we measure up we'll tell you honestly which will serve you better.

Older Lancashire bedrooms are full of the spaces freestanding furniture can't touch: alcoves either side of a chimney breast, sloping ceilings in a converted loft, boxed-in stairs, bay windows, walls that haven't been straight since the day they were built. That's exactly where a careful fit pays off. We scribe units tight to uneven walls and cut around the slopes and recesses, all within the existing structure of the room, so the storage goes where a standard wardrobe simply couldn't. You've got two routes and both are fine by us. Buy a range yourself — made-to-measure from a supplier, or a flat-pack system from somewhere like B&Q or IKEA — and we'll fit and scribe it so it reads as built-in. Or we supply and fit. Whichever suits your budget. We're fitters, not a design studio, so there's no showroom premium and no commission-led upsell; we'll give you straight, practical advice on what works in the space and then fit it properly. Made-to-measure almost always uses an awkward room best, but a good flat-pack range fitted well is a sensible option for a simple square room, and we'll say so.

The inside matters as much as the doors. How much hanging you really need versus shelving, a mix of long-hang for coats and dresses and double-hang to double your capacity, drawers for the things that don't hang, shoe racks, a top box for the suitcase you use twice a year.
